  1. This is your most ambitious challenge ever. All of the three seasons thus far? Luckily, I am prepared.

  2. Matthew: Just be as nice as you are.

Lady Mary: You think me nice but nobody else does. What makes you so sure I am?

Matthew: Because I've seen you naked. And held you in my arms. And I know the real you.

Lady Mary: Goodness! What a testimonial!

  3. That can't be right!

Wait a minute, we've only gone as far as the end of the second season. Actually, Cathy has not quite got that far yet, but she said she did think she might enjoy Christmas at Downton, so we are waiting to see Matthew lose his temper with the newspaper mogul, and the Dowager Lady Grantham cut him to the quick on his way out (I love Lady Grantham!).

Mary Crawley is nice by the way, though she can have a hard edge as well. Anyway, anything that has happened in Season 3, and I have heard some rumors mind you, anything in Season 3 is all in the future to me.

  4. I thought I saw PBS starting Season 3 in January. And I saw our Chicago station showing the Christmas 2012 special--and that was bound to spoil a lot of fans' day because the Christmas show was actually the LAST episode of Season 3. Me? I see them an hour after they air in London, so I am enjoying the speculation as they now begin filming Season 4. Fans can actually have some input at this point--given the nature of Season 3. DO catch up as quickly as possible, James, so we (Cathy, too) can have a go at sketching the future.

That scene I posted could have come from several years--I intentionally chose it NOT to be of the spoiler variety.

  5. Okay, back to the end of Season 2.

You know, there is just so much to say. I was so peeved when Lord Grantham out of almost nowhere grabs that housemaid Jane and kisses her. What?! It was so awkward, and so undermined his position. Sure, she was a nice enough gal and it is always pleasant to have someone listen to your troubles, but what was the man thinking? I was mad at the writiers over that, and didn't want to watch him destroy his marriage and his family, but I see now that it placed him in a position where it was easier for him to be gracious with Mary, that without his indiscretions, such as they were, he would have hard a harder time being supportive to Mary, so ultimately it all worked out far to the good, and I had not trusted the writer to pull that together for me as he did. In the same way, watching Daisy torture William, with her short brush offs and always pushing him out the door, it was tiresome and irritating to me. I could see no good outcome whatsoever from that thread. And yet, here is Daisy speaking with Lady Grantham no less, and not only are we treated to seeing her listen and care about someone like Daisy, which cheered me to see, but she gave her such practical and honest commentary on the events, that Daisy could not possibly have been unfaithful to William, and that her actions showed that she did indeed care very much for, even loved him, and that there was nothing to be ashamed of over that. And then, to top it off, the very fine interactions she had with William's father, his steady hand, his desire to care for and watch out for her, as a father would, and her own need and desire to have someone care for her in that way, so very nice indeed. Yes, some of the most unpleasant threads came together beautifully, and I never saw it coming, and that was what I meant when I said earlier that the writer found his way right in the story. Mary and Matthew had a similar surprisingly good resolution. And I so loved how happy she was, her doubts over his willingness to look past Mr. Parmook, his ready, mature answer, her girlish insistence that he get down on his knee (as he should have), and his grudging willingness to do just that, and to hear Mary laugh and see them both smile in the midst of a shared kiss, such wonderful happiness shared... that was such good fun!

Yes, it was a good one!

  6. I came back looking for information about pizza stones and I find a new comment from you, James. And a grest one too. ;-)

It always shows when the writers truly have affection for their characters. I've had it with those that just have an ideological ax to grind. Lord Grantham's kiss also started paving the way for him accepting Lady Sybil and Branson--however long that road.

Now it is time for you to get caught up on Season 3, when the DVDs hit stores--and Netflix--shortly. So much happens that you better be sitting down.

  7. Thank you, Darrell. And thanks for hanging around. I'm not writing much these days, but I am very keen to see Season 3. Now we just need to see if that Cathy will come back around and give us a little lift.

  11. Wow. Great information. This is exactly what I was looking for. My brother told me I would love this and he was sure right.
But maybe you could write a few more pieces about how cool Nancy Pelosi is and how great it feels to know that Benghazi and Fast and Furious are just Fox News scare stories we don't need to be overly concerned about?

    Sheesh!

Well, neat to see you stopping by, Bedes. I'm afraid it's been pretty thin writing over here, but I love to see you off and running again. I still haven't recovered from the blow we took last Novemeber. Mitt Romney is just the guy the party elites told us was the "only candidate that could win", whereas guys like Darrell and myself wanted a conservative that wasn't afraid to call Obama on his record. Didn't work out. I guess trashing all the conservatives through the primaries cause you know the conservative vote is a lock, and then presenting yourself as an acceptable replacement for a Democrat president didn't inspire much enthusiasm, with Mitt getting some 4 million fewer votes than the hapless and confused John McCain. It was the Republican party leadership that designed the outcome by ensuring a split of the conservatives in the primaries to get there guy the nomination, and they and other opinion makers tried to push everybody behind their guy (yes, I'm talking about you, Laura Ingraham and you, Ann Coulter) and "their guy" got beat, and we all are suffering the consequences. Now Rove and Steve Law think they need to take over the primary process for us so they can better choose the candidates we can vote for. The dolts. Nope, things aren't looking so good over here. I must say though, that I did enjoy Senator Ted Cruz of Texas asking Eric Holder just where the chief legal officer of the nation thought the president's ability to select targets for kill strikes ended. Pretty confused in his mind, but he eventually came up with a due process limit for US citizens in the US who pose no imminent threat, but only after utterly embarrassing himself with his meandering and mumbling attempts at non-answer. Here's hoping things are better on the other side of the Atlantic.

Anyway, always good to read you, Bedes.

  15. Does this site have a washroom I could use? You see I'm a long way from home and I have a contribution to make. Besides, I want a tenth of a cent for everyone that clicks my link because that's how I roll! Unfortunately, I have yet to see my first click. Don't know why. I wish I knew what to rub on my chіlblaіns--and to maybe know what those were without looking it up. I have a feeling I will learn someday.

Feel free to delete this whimsy when you delete the above, James. Just giving soemthing else to read. . .

But what does happen if you rub a raw onion on a chemical toilet spiderbot?

  19. I was Googling the Lady Mary/Matthew Crawley quote above--
Matthew: Just be as nice as you are.

Lady Mary: You think me nice but nobody else does. What makes you so sure I am?

Matthew: Because I've seen you naked. And held you in my arms. And I know the real you.

Lady Mary: Goodness! What a testimonial!
