Weiner Focuses On Health

In a dramatic press conference held at a Brooklyn Senior center, Anthony Weiner, the Democrat congressman from New York, submitted to the pressure of his party's leadership and resigned from office.

Anthony Weiner was an extremely aggressive, caustic, partisan congressmen, who routinely bullied people and had designs on disparaging US Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas. Those plans were sidelined when the Weiner scandal broke, and Justice Thomas was spared whatever unpleasantness Weiner had hoped to cause him. All that makes it hard to have much compassion for this man. Even in departing, the self-focus of the man that is so troubling was evident:
"To repeat, most importantly, most importantly, so that I can continue to heal from the damage I caused."
People make mistakes, I understand that. But most important are the people around you that are affected, either wittingly or unwittingly. That is where your remorse should be directed, Mr. Weiner. If we can get past that, this focus on self, then there is a chance at getting better. But let us hear no more about your hard work for the people that don't have jobs.

That, and take it one day at a time.
