Casey at the Plate

Casey Neistat, a New York City native and cyclist, was cited by New York's finest for not riding his bicycle in the bike lane. When he told the officer that sometimes the bicycle lane was not always the safest place to be, the officer told him it didn't matter.

He always needed to be in the bike lane.

Casey paid his fifty dollar ticket, and then he and a buddy took a little spin.

  1. I loved the background .. some guy la-la-la'ing Handel's water music.

  2. In an article on the do's and don'ts of bicycle crashes ('Bicycling', Crash Course, October 2011), they interviewed Casey to get his perspective. His tip?

"I basically try to get my hands up and protect my vitals. I'd rather have a broken leg then hit my head. I realize that's coming from a guy not wearing a helmet, but protect the head at all costs."

    There you go.

  3. The cop wouldn't have given him a ticket if he simply swerved out of the bike lane for a second or five to avoid an obstacle.

Citizens demand action every time a biker is injured or killed doing something stupid--which just happened a month or so ago in NYC from that story that made National news. And crackdowns like this are the usual result. I'm also sure you are not advocating the current norm where bikers are all over doing anything they damn well please when it suits them. I'm sure the fines the people blocking the bike lanes are getting are a lot higher. I doubt that NYC is missing any source of revenue these days. They probably even have special enforcement officer to cover that.

  4. No, no, no... I'm not commenting on bike lane policy. I'm having a laugh with a nut ball who is willing to ride a bike into a whole assortment of things and let the chips fall where they may. I kinda also like the generally challenging attitude of this New Yorker guy... and the way the cop says "ten dollahs."

"La la la la, lala la!"

  5. I was thinking that the guy will probably find someone to sue to cover his medical costs from all those prat falls. The bill will come due when he gets older. The human body was not designed for physical comedy. Maybe ObamaCare includes retirement homes for YouTube jokers.

  6. Very true.

For the short term he may want to purchase a helmet.
