Noonan Misses It ... Again!

Peggy Noonan is always a pleasure to read, and I loved her treatise on Reagan When Character Was King, but since the run of the Obama she has been as penetrating in her take on events as a block of concrete.

In her latest article in the Wall Street Journal she takes on the plummeting support of this president in the wake of his recent address to the nation.
"Mr. Obama is starting to look unlucky, and–file this under Mysteries of Leadership–that is dangerous for him because Americans get nervous when they have a snakebit president. They want presidents on whom the sun shines.

It isn't Mr. Obama's fault that an oil rig blew in the Gulf and a gusher resulted."

Bad luck? Snake bit? Peggy, the man ... aghhh!

  1. Ms. Noonan came out of her Obama-swoon a few months ago, but is still far too measured in her criticism of him.

We all know that the economy was falling apart before November, 2008. Obama did not suffer the pain of having an economy collapse on his watch: he signed up for it. Having signed up for it, we can hold him accountable for his inability to fix it. While few politicians would say, "You know, I'm just not equipped to handle the mess that will face me; this isn't want I was bargaining for, and my opponent could do a better job," that's actually what we should expect.

As I also maintain, presidents should expect disasters to occur on their watch. Clinton was singularly fortunate, but look at what Bush had: 9/11, Katrina, a blackout in 2003, a struggling economy, and the housing market collapse. Bush 41 got a recession and the Persian Gulf War. Reagan started off with double-digit inflation and the Cold War. I could go on, but it would be tedious beyond belief; anyone with any brains should know that a President should expect horrible disasters and be ready to take charge, no matter whose fault they are, because that's the job description.

Unfortunately, we elected a half-black, half-wit Paris Hilton, so it's going to be a rough four years.

Yes, well, if she thinks the problem is the man has been "unlucky", she has missed everything that has been going on since this statist usurper took office and set about remaking the country.

I'll say, and I would go on to say that is hilarious, if it weren't for the serious implications and the fact that you're stone cold right!

    Hey, thanks for stopping in!
